A LOVE AFFAIR with PLANTS
The uncultivated tract of land that bordered our small town was, by all accounts, ordinary field, unused and overgrown with vegetation. For me, it was a magical meadow where, at the age of five, my lifelong affair with plants began.
As a child, I gathered its weeds and wildflowers, clumsily bundling them into bouquets, then running home to present them to family and neighbors. Out of kindness, or perhaps out of amusement, the recipients rewarded me with delectable treats. This exchange of foliage for food left an indelible mark on me, and humble foliage became forever linked to the joy of giving from the heart.
